Yellow alert for three districts in Kerala today

Pre-monsoon activities are over Kerala from the second half of March, which is why Kerala has received rain surplus of 128% from March 1 to April 14.

KOCHI: Under the influence of trough in lower tropospheric levels from Chhattisgarh to south interior Karnataka, scattered to widespread rainfall accompanied with thunder/lightning is very likely to occur over Kerala during the next five days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned.
It has also issued a yellow alert of isolated heavy rainfall for Pathanamthitta, Idukki and Wayanad on Sunday. A similar alert has been issued for Idukki and Wayanad on Monday. A cyclonic circulation over Lakshadweep area and adjoining southeast Arabian Sea also persists.

Meanwhile, Chittur recorded the highest 24-hour rainfall of 5cm on Saturday morning. Mananthavady and Meenangadi in Wayanad got 2cm of rainfall each. Cial Kochi, Kottayam, Kozhikode, Palakkad, Punalur and Vellanikkara recorded the highest maximum temperature of 35°C.
Skymet weather said that many parts of south Peninsula are experiencing intense rain and thundershower activities for the last few days. In fact, pre-monsoon activities are over Kerala from the second half of March, which is why Kerala has received rain surplus of 128% from March 1 to April 14.

Two depressions have formed over South Andaman Sea in March leading to intense rainfall over Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
