Actor Sreenivasan dragged himself into yet another controversy by allegedly making derogatory remarks against Anganwadi Workers. Following this, Kerala Women’s Commission has charged a case against Sreenivasan on the basis of a complaint filed by Anganwadi teachers.
During an interview given to a television channel, the actor said that women without any education and those who do not get jobs opt to become Anganwadi teachers. “In Japan, teachers who know psychology teach the kids in kindergarten. Here women with no education and who do not get any other jobs are made Anganwadi teachers. The kids learn from them and they learn from such low standards,” he said during the interview.
Anganwadi teachers and workers were appreciated for their selfless work during COVID-19 lockdown. They made sure children get their mid-day meals regularly during the lockdown.
Last year, Sreenivasan drew flak for his insensitive remarks about the need for a collective like Women in Cinema. He claimed there is no gender inequality in cinema and therefore there is no need for such initiative.
