Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Police have warned motorists against reckless and dangerous driving, stressing that such violations can result in fines of up to Dh50,000, along with vehicle impoundment and possible auction if penalties are not paid.
The warning follows the release of video footage showing a driver veering abruptly and endangering lives—as part of an awareness campaign led by Abu Dhabi Police in cooperation with the Monitoring and Control Center.
The footage captures a driver recklessly weaving between vehicles at high speed. At one point, he attempts to squeeze between a car ahead and another in the adjacent lane but misjudges the gap. The result is a violent collision with the front vehicle, causing his car to flip and launch into the air before crashing down.
In a statement, the Traffic and Patrols Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police cited Clause No. 1 of Ministerial Resolution No. 178 of 2017, which addresses traffic violations that endanger lives. The violation—driving a vehicle in a manner that endangers the driver’s life or the lives, safety, and security of others—carries a fine of Dh2,000, 23 black points, and a 60-day vehicle impoundment.
Further penalties apply under Law No. 5 of 2020 on vehicle impoundment in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Under this law, a reckless driver must pay Dh50,000 to release the impounded vehicle. If the payment is not made within three months, the vehicle is subject to public auction.
Abu Dhabi Police reiterated their zero-tolerance policy toward dangerous driving and urged motorists to exercise caution and responsibility on the roads.
