After years of hiatus, Suresh Gopi, the roaring lion of Mollywood made a strong comeback in the industry in 2020 with the movie Varane Avashyamundu that also starred Dulquer Salmaan, Shobhana, and Kalyani Priyadarshan in the lead roles. Even though a multi-starrer, it was Suresh Gopi’s scintillating screen presence that played a crucial role in determining the success of this film in theaters. The success of Varane Avashyamundu revived Suresh Gopi’s stardom in Mollywood, and the actor is now busy with some big-budget projects in his kitty.

Suresh Gopi: The Manhood of Mollywood

In the 1990s, Suresh Gopi was the face of Mollywood action films, and many of his films that include Commissioner, Mafia and Yuvathurki became huge hits in Tollywood, when it had its dubbed release. During those times, Suresh Gopi’s star power in South India was way ahead than Mammootty and Mohanlal, and several north Indian film critics had called him the actor who has all the potentials to emerge as a Pan-Indian superstar.

Films like Lelam, Sathyameva Jayathe, Pathram, and FIR literally exploited the machismo in Suresh Gopi, and these films continue to remain cult classics even after 20 years of its release. In 1997, Suresh Gopi proved that he is not just an action hero, by winning the National Award for the best actor for his impeccable performance in the movie Kaliyattam.

But during these times, several people alleged that Suresh Gopi films are affecting children badly, as most of these flicks glorified intense violence and action.

As criticisms started pouring in, Suresh Gopi stopped doing action roles and deviated his career by playing light-hearted characters on screen. As films started flopping at the box-office, Suresh Gopi decided to take the gun again and delivered a blockbuster hit through Bharathchandran IPS in 2005. In the next years, he delivered some superhit movies that include the iconic

Chinthamani Kolacase where he portrayed the role of Lal Krishna Viradiyar aka LK, a criminal lawyer who hunts down his enemies after saving them from the clutches of law.

Post-2010, Suresh Gopi became active in politics, and he acted in a very number of movies. Even though most of these movies flopped at the box-office, some films like Apothecary and Melvilason garnered critical acclaim. In 2015, Suresh Gopi acted in My God which literally bombed at the box-office, and from then, he did not act in any movies until 2020.

Suresh Gopi’s swag never fades
