Spread of COVID-19 in Kerala continues unabated

COVID-19 has been confirmed in 5,528 people in Kerala on January 9. The district-wise break-up of the number of affected are Ernakulam 893, Kozhikode 599, Kottayam 574, Malappuram 523, Kollam 477, Pathanamthitta 470, Thrissur 403, Thiruvananthapuram 344, Alappuzha 318, Idukki 222, Palakkad 217, Wayanad 213, Kannur 182 and Kasaragod 93.
COVID-19 has not been confirmed in the last 24 hours by anyone from the UK. It has so far been confirmed by 50 people who recently came from the UK. Their samples have been sent to NIV Pune for further testing. A total of six people were diagnosed with the genetically modified virus.

A total of 61,239 samples were tested during the last 24 hours. The test positivity rate is 9.03. A total of 84,06,202 samples have so far been sent for testing, including LAMP and antigen testing.
It has been confirmed that 22 deaths in the last few days were due to COVID-19. This brings the total death toll to 3,279. Further deaths will be confirmed after NIV testing in Alappuzha.
Sixty of those diagnosed with the disease are from outside the State and 4,988 people were infected through contact. Contact source for 435 is not clear. Ernakulam 812, Kozhikode 577, Kottayam 539, Malappuram 506, Kollam 474, Pathanamthitta 405, Thrissur 393, Thiruvananthapuram 242, Alappuzha 308, Idukki 211, Palakkad 82, Wayanad 200, Kannur 151 and Kasaragod 88 were affected by the disease.
Forty-five health workers were affected. Ernakulam 12, Thiruvananthapuram 6, Pathanamthitta, Kannur 5 each, Thrissur, Wayanad 4 each, Palakkad, Kozhikode 3 each, Kollam, Malappuram and Kasaragod 1 each.
The test results of 5424 people who were diagnosed and treated were negative. Thiruvananthapuram 352, Kollam 684, Pathanamthitta 294, Alappuzha 302, Kottayam 920, Idukki 70, Ernakulam 761, Thrissur 403, Palakkad 179, Malappuram 478, Kozhikode 562, Wayanad 139, Kannur 220 and Kasaragod 60 had negative results today. With this, 64,318 people have been diagnosed with the disease and are still undergoing treatment. 7,38,808 people have so far been freed from COVID-19.
There are currently 2,02,171 people under surveillance in various districts of the state. Of these, 1,91,116 are under home / institutional quarantine and 11,055 in hospitals. A total of 1,268 people were admitted to hospitals.

There are three new hotspots. The new hotspots are Aranmula (Cantonment Zone Wards 6, 13), Nedumbaram (5) in Pathanamthitta district and Vorkadi (1) in Kasaragod district.
Five areas were excluded from the hotspot list. With this, there are currently a total of 438 hotspots.
