Sensex rises above 51,000 again

The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex today rose to over 51,000. The Sensex ended at 51039.31 points. The stock market gained for the third day in a row. Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange Nifty closed at 15,097 points, up 15,176 points.

Profits were high at the last hour of trading. Reliance Industries was the main contributor to the rise in the index today. Reliance rose 4.23% today. Nifty stocks such as Coal India, UPL, Hindalco, Adani Ports, BPCL and ONGC gained over 5 per cent.

Even today, metal stocks have seen a surge. The Nifty Metal Index rose by 4%. The Nifty Metal Index closed at a three-year high. All sectors except IT registered gains today.

The midcap index gained 1.5 per cent and the smallcap index 1.4 per cent. 1264 shares gained while 622 shares lost on the NSE.
