Salalah’s Atin Tunnel Opens Ahead of Schedule, Enhancing Oman’s Road Infrastructure

Muscat : Oman has marked a significant milestone in its transport infrastructure with the early opening of the Atin Tunnel project in Salalah, part of a broader 9-kilometer road development initiative aimed at improving connectivity across Dhofar Governorate.

The centerpiece of the project is a 1.35-kilometer dual carriageway tunnel, designed to facilitate smoother travel through the region. In addition, the expansion of November 18 Street now offers four lanes in each direction along a 2.7-kilometer stretch, significantly easing traffic congestion.

The comprehensive infrastructure package also includes bypass roads in four directions totaling 1.3 kilometers, seven service roads, and improved entry and exit points to optimize traffic flow.

Eng. Saeed bin Mohammed Tabuk, Director General of the Directorate General of Roads and Land Transport in Dhofar, confirmed that the project reached 97% completion—24% ahead of schedule. He emphasized that the development was executed by a local company, showcasing the strength and competence of Omani contractors in delivering large-scale infrastructure projects efficiently and ahead of time.
