AMMAN : The Omani delegation, led by His Excellency Eng. Saeed bin Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, joined representatives from 16 member nations to discuss the DCO’s strategic direction and future plans.
During its participation in the meeting, the Ministry signed a memorandum of understanding with 500 Global, a venture capital investment company, with the aim of enhancing the environment of innovation and digital entrepreneurship for Omani start-ups and small and medium-sized companies. The agreement was signed on behalf of the Ministry by His Excellency Dr. Ali Al Shaidhani, Undersecretary of the Ministry for Communications and Information Technology. His Excellency also participated in a dialogue session on foreign direct investment in the field of artificial intelligence within the framework of the Digital Cooperation Organization meeting.
The meeting focused on discussing the organisation’s strategic direction and future plans for the next four years. Key topics included accelerating comprehensive digital transformation, enhancing digital cooperation, supporting technical innovation, and exploring solutions to overcome challenges hindering sustainable digital growth.
In his speech, His Excellency Al Maawali highlighted Oman’s ongoing efforts to stimulate the digital economy, highlighting the National Digital Economy Program and its accompanying initiatives aimed at localising advanced technologies, attracting foreign direct investment, and driving innovation. These initiatives play a pivotal role in increasing the contribution of the digital economy to Oman’s national GDP.
Oman’s re-election to the Executive Committee of the DCO, reaffirms its commitment to advancing digital collaboration and economic growth within the region. The committee, which plays a key role in implementing programs and formulating policies to enhance the digital economy among member states, will continue to benefit from Oman’s strategic contributions.
