Kerala reports 41,971 COVID-19 cases on May 8

People in Kerala should avoid going out of the house completely except for unavoidable needs. “Only by minimising contact can we prevent the spread of disease and prevent deaths,” Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said  on May 8.

“We are now going through a phase where the powerful COVID wave is pounding. It is also a time when we need to look at the atmosphere without creating a panicked atmosphere. Now we need to be vigilant and move forward. It must be recognised that only our responsible behaviour can stop the spread of this disease and save human lives,” he said.

COVID-19 has been confirmed for 41,971 people in Kerala today. Ernakulam 5,492, Thiruvananthapuram 4,560, Malappuram 4,558, Thrissur 4,230, Kozhikode 3,981, Palakkad 3,216, Kannur 3,090, Kollam 2,838, Alappuzha 2,433, Kottayam 2,395, Kasaragod 1,749, Wayanad 1,196, Pathanamthitta 1,180 and Idukki 1,053 districts were diagnosed with the disease today.

A total of 1,48,546 samples were tested during the last 24 hours. The test positivity rate is 28.25. A total of 1,69,09,361 samples have been tested so far, including LAMP and antigen testing. No one from the UK, South Africa or Brazil has confirmed COVID-19in the last 24 hours.

Today, it has been confirmed that 64 deaths in the last few days have been caused by COVID-19. This brings the total death toll to 5746.

Today, 387 of those diagnosed with the disease are from outside the State and  38,662 people were infected through contact. Contact source for 2,795 is not clear. The worst affected areas are Ernakulam 5,305, Thiruvananthapuram 4,271, Malappuram 4,360, Thrissur 4,204, Kozhikode 3,864, Palakkad 1363, Kannur 2,794, Kollam 2,827, Alappuzha 2,423, Kottayam 2,244, Kasaragod 1,706, Wayanad 1,145, Pathanamthitta 1,137 and Idukki 1,019.

A total of 127 health workers were affected by the disease. Kannur 40, Kasaragod 18, Ernakulam 17, Thrissur, Wayanad 9 each, Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta 8 each, Kollam 6, Palakkad 5, Kozhikode 3, Idukki 2, Kottayam Malappuram 1 each were affected.

The test results of 27,456 people who were diagnosed with the disease were negative. Thiruvananthapuram 2,403, Kollam 1,412, Pathanamthitta 478, Alappuzha 772, Kottayam 1,404, Idukki 316, Ernakulam 4,052, Thrissur 1,686, Palakkad 3,487, Malappuram 3,388, Kozhikode 4991, Wayanad 591, Kannur 1,856 and Kasaragod 620 were found to be negative today. With this, 4,17,101 people have been diagnosed with the disease and are still undergoing treatment. 14,43,633 people have so far been freed from COVID-19

There are currently 10,81,007 people under surveillance in various districts of the state. Of these, 10,50,745 are under home / institutional quarantine and 30,262 are under observation in hospitals. A total of 53,324 people were newly monitored.

Today there are four new hotspots. No area is excluded from the hotspot. There are currently a total of 788 hotspots.
