COVID-19 has been confirmed for 2,885 people in Kerala on September 12 even as 15 deaths were confirmed as due to the viral infection. Meanwhile, 1,944 people were cured of the infection.
The district-wise break-up of the infected were 566 people in Thiruvananthapuram district, 310 in Malappuram district, 286 in Kozhikode district, 265 in Kollam district, 207 in Kannur district, 188 in Ernakulam district, 184 in Palakkad district, 172 in Thrissur district, 166 in Kottayam district, 163 in Alappuzha district, 150 in Kasaragod district, 88 in Pathanamthitta district, 86 in Idukki district and 54 in Wayanad district.
Those whose death were confirmed as due to COVID-19 were Francis Joseph (84), a native of Pampur, Thrissur, who died on August 25; Bhagavathi (78) of Fort, Thiruvananthapuram who died on August 27; Khadesshabi (73) of Big Bazaar, Kozhikode who died on August 28; Hamsa (65) of Perumbadri, Palakkad who died on August 29; Abdul Latheef (56), a native of Kayavalappu, Kozhikode who died on August 30; Maideen MK Musharukodiyil (60), a native of Kothamangalam, Ernakulam, who died on September 1; Kuttu (88), a native of Tirur, Malappuram who died on September 2; Khadeeja (45) of Kollakkara, Palakkad who died on September 3; James (76) of Neyyattinkara, Thiruvananthapuram who died on September 4; Padmanabhan Potty (101) of Kalady, Thiruvananthapuram; Ruhiya Beevi (76), Uzhamalaykkal, Thiruvnanathapuram; Isha Beevi (72) from Manakkad, Thiruvananthapuram; Muhammad (67) from Kuttikattur, Kozhikode; Vijayalakshmi Amma (88) from Poojappura, Thiruvananthapuram and Varghese (58) from Thrissur. This brings the total death toll to 425. Further deaths will be confirmed after NIV testing in Alappuzha.
Forty-two confirmed cases were from foreign countries and 137 were from other States. A total of 2,640 people were infected through contact. The contact source of 287 of them was not clear. Fifty-five health workers and 11 INHS in Ernakulam District Employees were affected by the disease.
There are currently 2,03,300 people under surveillance in various districts of the state. Of those under observation, 1,81,123 are under home / institutional quarantine and 22,177 are under observation in hospitals. A total of 2,576 people were admitted to hospitals.
A total of 43,954 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. A total of 20,99,549 samples have so far been sent for testing, including routine samples, Airport Surveillance, Pooled Sentinel, CBNAT, Trunat, CLIA and Antigen Assay. As part of Sentinel Surveillance, 1,88,549 samples were sent for testing from priority groups such as health workers, guest workers and people with greater social contact.
There were 19 new hotspots and 10 areas were excluded from the hotspot. With this, there were 603 hotspots.
