Amit Shah reaches W.Bengal for two-day visit, will hold mega rally

BJP top leader and the country’s Home Minister Amit Shah, arrived in West Bengal on Satrurday. He will stay in the state for two days to analyse the situation ahead of the high-voltage elections, slated to be held next year. Amit Shah’s visit holds importance amid high political drama and shifting loyalties in West Bengal.

He was welcomed by several BJP supporters. However his arrival also sparked row. Saffron coloured posters placed Shah’s picture was placed above that of legendary poet, Rabindranath Tagore prompted controversy.

During the course of the day, Mr Shah is expected to welcome Suvendu Adhikari, the high profile former Trinamool leader, to the BJP. Mr Adhikari first resigned from the Mamata Banerjee cabinet on November 27 and then from the party on December 16. His associates have promised a “political storm more fierce than Cyclone Amphan” to sweep across Bengal today from Darjeeling to Digha”.

The former Trinamool leader may also bring along several other party leaders.Two MLAs had already resigned from Trinamool, though Jitendra Tiwari, who had quit a day earlier, returned to his mother party.
