3,021 infected with COVID-19 on Jan 4; 5,145 cured

COVID-19 has been confirmed for 3,021 people in Kerala on January 4, while 5,145 patients were cured of the infection. The district-wise break-up of the infected are Kozhikode 481, Malappuram 406, Ernakulam 382, Thrissur 281, Kottayam 263, Alappuzha 230, Thiruvananthapuram 222, Kollam 183, Palakkad 135, Kannur 133, Pathanamthitta 110, Idukki 89, Wayanad 79 and Kasaragod 27.

The infection was confirmed within the last 24 hours for two people from the United Kingdom. With this, COVID-19 has so far been confirmed for 39 people who recently came from the UK. Their samples have been sent to NIV Pune for further testing. Of those, 12 came as a result. No genetically modified virus was found in it.

During the last 24 hours, 33,508 samples were tested. The test positivity rate is 9.02. It has been confirmed that 19 deaths in the last few days were due to COVID-19. This brings the total death toll to 3,160. Further deaths will be confirmed after NIV testing in Alappuzha.

Fifty-two of those diagnosed with the disease are from outside the State and 2,643 people were infected through contact. Contact source for 284 is not clear. Kozhikode 456, Malappuram 378, Ernakulam 350, Thrissur 273, Kottayam 225, Alappuzha 226, Thiruvananthapuram 143, Kollam 177, Palakkad 51, Kannur 98, Pathanamthitta 88, Idukki 77, Wayanad 75 and Kasaragod 26 were affected by the disease.

The disease affected 42 health workers. Kannur 12, Thiruvananthapuram 10, Ernakulam 6, Thrissur, Kozhikode 3 each, Kollam, Pathanamthitta 2 each, Kottayam, Palakkad, Malappuram and Wayanad 1 each.

The test results of 5,145 patients who were diagnosed with the disease were negative. Thiruvananthapuram 271, Kollam 273, Pathanamthitta 400, Alappuzha 240, Kottayam 800, Idukki 28, Ernakulam 749, Thrissur 677, Palakkad 258, Malappuram 522, Kozhikode 373, Wayanad 151, Kannur 246 and Kasaragod 157 were found to be negative today. With this, 63,135 people have been diagnosed with the disease and are still undergoing treatment. 7,12,389 have so far been freed from COVID.
There are currently 2,32,135 people under surveillance in various districts of the State. Of these, 2,20,699 are under home / institutional quarantine and 11,436 in hospitals. A total of 1277 people were admitted to hospitals.

There is a new hot spot, Chelakkara (Cantonment Zone Sub Ward 4) in Thrissur district and two areas were excluded from the hotspot list. With this, there are currently a total of 447 hotspots.
