2,397 fresh COVID-19 cases in Kerala; 2,225 recover

COVID-19 was confirmed in 2,397 persons in Kerala on August 29, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said. Of the total, 2,137 people were infected through contact and the source in 197 cases were not traceable. Sixty-eight of those diagnosed on the day have come back from foreign countries and 126 from other States. Sixty three healthcare workers were also infected. He also said that there are more than 200 cases in four districts. At the same time, 2,225 patients under treatment for the disease have recovered.

Meanwhile, six recent deaths were confirmed on the day as due to Covid. Vijayakumar (55) from Kasargod district, Abdullah (70) from Wayanad district, K.M. Shahul Hameed (69) from Kozhikode district, Iyyathutty (65) from Malappuram district, Ashiq (39) from Kannur district and Aneesh (30) from Kollam district are the deceased. The COVID related death toll in the State is now 280. More deaths will be confirmed after subsequent tests at NIV, Alappuzha.

A total of 408 persons from Thiruvananthapuram district, 379 in Malappuram district, 234 from Kollam district, 225 in Thrissur district, 198 from Kasaragod district, 175 in Alappuzha district, 152 from Kozhikode district, 139 in Kottayam district, 136 from Ernakulam district, l33 in Palakkad district, 95 from Kannur district, 75 in Pathanamthitta district, 27 from Idukki district and 21 in Wayanad district are those who tested positive for coronavirus.

The details of the contact cases are 393 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 350 from Malappuram district, 213 in Kollam district, 208 from Thrissur district, 184 in Kasaragod district, 136 from Kozhikode district, 134 in Kottayam district, 132 from Alappuzha district, 114 in Ernakulam district, 101 from Palakkad district, 83 in Kannur district, 51 from Pathanamthitta district, 20 in Wayanad district and 18 from Idukki district.

There are 16 infected healthcare workers in Alappuzha district, 11 in Malappuram district, eight in Kannur district, six each in Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta and Ernakulam districts, five in Kasaragod district, two in Kozhikode district, one each in Kollam, Thrissur and Palakkad districts. Three INHS personnel in Ernakulam District were also infected by the disease.
591 patients from Thiruvananthapuram district, 104 in Kollam district, 89 from Pathanamthitta district, 236 from Alappuzha district, 120 in Kottayam district, 41 from Idukki district, 148 from Ernakulam district, 142 in Thrissur district, 74 in Palakkad district, 372 from Malappuram district, 131 from Kozhikode district, 38 in Wayanad district, 94 from Kannur district and 45 in Kasaragod district tested negative.

Till now, 48,083 persons have recovered from COVID in the State and currently, 23,277 patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals.

A total of 1,95,927 people are under observation across the state, 1,76,822 under home or institutional quarantine and 19,105 in hospitals. 2,363 persons were admitted to the hospital.

A total of 34,988 samples were tested during the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 16,43,633 samples have been sent for testing, including 1,77,356 samples from high public exposure groups as part of Sentinel Surveillance.

Fifteen new places were demarcated as hotspots in the State while 25 places were excluded. At present, there are 589 hotspots in Kerala.
