Oman powers up energy future with new vision for training and innovation

Muscat: The institute, initially established in 2018 as the Oman Oil and Gas Institute, has rebranded to reflect its expanded focus, encompassing renewable energy fields such as solar, wind, and green hydrogen, alongside traditional oil and gas expertise. This strategic transformation highlights Oman’s commitment to preparing specialized human resources to drive growth in the dynamic energy sector.

Eng. Nasr bin Nasser Al Siyabi, Director General of the Oman Institute for Energy, emphasized the institute’s dedication to equipping local and regional talent to meet global energy transitions.

He added that the institute offers specialized training programs covering the fields of oil and gas, in addition to specializations related to renewable energy and hydrogen, in addition to management, occupational safety and personal skills, aiming to qualify national and regional competencies to keep pace with global transformations in the energy sector. He explained that these programs are characterized by modern technologies, such as simulation and virtual reality, in cooperation with international institutions that enhance the quality of training and link it to global developments. The programs also combine theoretical education with practical application
Since its inception, the institute has delivered over 1,000 courses to more than 8,000 trainees, fostering employment opportunities for Omani youth and preparing them for the labor market. Collaborating with the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, the institute aims to be a leading reference in the region’s energy sector by aligning its programs with the latest industry standards.

Oman’s comprehensive strategy to reduce reliance on fossil fuels while advancing solar, wind, and green hydrogen projects underscores its commitment to sustainable development.
