Kerala sees 5,716 new COVID-19 cases on Feb 2

Kerala reported 5,716 new Covid-19 cases on February 2, informed Health Minister K. K. Shailaja in a press statement. The total confirmed coronavirus case in the state now reached at 9,38,353. The test positivity rate was recorded at 10.80 percent.

The state also registered 5,747 recoveries taking the total recoveries to 8,65,168.

Sixteen deaths were reported on this day which made the total death of state to 3,776.

Local transmission of COVID-19 continues unabated as 5,161 of the newly reported cases contracted the virus through contact. Of this, the infection sources of 403 are unknown, the minister said.

In the last 24 hours, 52,940 samples have been tested. In total, 97,12,432 samples were sent for testing.

No UK returnee tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours. So far, 77 UK returnees tested positive for coronavirus in the state. Of them, 59 people have recovered from the disease. Only 10 were tested positive for new virus strain.

69,157 patients are still under treatment in various hospitals across the state, Health Minister K K Shailaja said in a statement.
