The UAE has welcomed Morocco’s decision to resume diplomatic relations with Israel, tweeted His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces on December 10.
“This step, a sovereign move, contributes to strengthening our common quest for stability, prosperity, and just and lasting peace in the region,” Sheikh Mohamed wrote on Twitter.
Earlier on the same day, Israel and Morocco agreed to normalize relations; the deal was brokered by the US. Morocco is the fourth Arab country to set aside hostilities with Israel in recent months after the UAE, Bahrain and Sudan.
Crown Prince visits the UK
Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed met British Prime Minister Boris Johnson at 10 Downing Street in London on December 10 and discussed bilateral relations and ways to drive cooperation in various fields. The two sides also reviewed historical and strategic ties of friendship between the two nations and common interests in various fields.
The meeting which was attended by H.H. Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Adviser, and H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Attending the meeting were Mansour Abdullah Belhoul, UAE Ambassador to the United Kingdom and Patrick Moody, British Ambassador to UAE.
The two leaders discussed the prospects of promoting economic and trade relations between the two countries as well as cooperation in the global fight against COVID-19. The two sides underlined the importance of ensuring the provision of effective treatment and vaccines for all, especially the underprivileged communities.
Regarding issues of common interest in the Middle East, Sheikh Mohamed expressed hope that the Abraham Accords signed by the UAE and Israel would enhance the prospects of peace and prosperity and help establish constructive relations between nations of the region.
The British Prime Minister expressed his hope that the historic agreement ushers in a new era of blossoming relations between the countries of the region based on collaboration, peaceful coexistence and common interests for the sake of future generations.
