Dubai: Indian nationals and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders can now benefit from quicker immigration clearance at eight major Indian airports, thanks to the Fast Track Immigration – Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI-TTP).
Launched by the Ministry of Home Affairs and managed by the Bureau of Immigration, the initiative uses automated e-gates and biometric verification to reduce immigration wait times from around 30 minutes to just a few seconds.
What is FTI-TTP?
Introduced in June 2024 at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, the FTI-TTP enables pre-verified travellers to bypass traditional immigration queues, streamlining the entry and exit process through high-tech e-gates.
Airports with FTI-TTP Facilities (As of January 2025):
- Delhi
- Mumbai
- Chennai
- Kolkata
- Bengaluru
- Hyderabad
- Cochin
- Ahmedabad
The Indian government aims to expand the programme to 21 international airports in the near future.
Who is Eligible?
- Indian citizens
- OCI cardholders
How to Enroll
1. Online Registration:
Visit the official portal: https://ftittp.mha.gov.in
Submit the following:
- Valid passport
- Recent passport-sized photograph
- Proof of residential address
- OCI card (for OCI applicants)
2. Biometric Submission:
Choose one of two options:
- Book an appointment at a Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Amritsar, Bengaluru, or Hyderabad.
- Submit biometrics at a participating international airport during immigration clearance.
3. Verification & Approval:
- Applications are reviewed by the Bureau of Immigration.
- Approved applicants are added to the ‘Trusted Travellers’ whitelist.
- Enrollment is free of charge.
How It Works at the Airport
At participating airports, enrolled travellers can use dedicated e-gates:
- Scan boarding pass
- Scan passport
- Complete biometric authentication (fingerprint + facial recognition)
Once verified, the e-gate opens automatically, completing immigration without any officer interaction.
Future Plans
The FTI-TTP aligns with the Indian government’s ‘Viksit Bharat @2047’ vision, aimed at modernising national infrastructure and services by India’s 100th year of independence.
Upcoming developments include:
- Expansion to 21 airports
- Integration of foreign nationals into the programme in later phases
Bottom Line:
With FTI-TTP, Indian citizens and OCI cardholders can experience seamless travel and avoid long immigration lines—marking a significant step toward digital transformation in Indian border control.
