Muscat / Cairo: Oman and Egypt have signed a series of cooperation agreements across key sectors including investment, labour and training, media, food safety, endowments, mineral resources, and human capital development. The accords were signed during the 16th session of the Omani-Egyptian Joint Committee held in Cairo, reaffirming the strategic partnership between the two nations.
The high-level meeting was co-chaired by Oman’s Foreign Minister, His Excellency Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, and Egyptian Foreign Minister, His Excellency Dr. Badr Abdelatty. The session marked a significant step in deepening long-standing diplomatic, economic, and political ties.
In his opening remarks, H.E. Sayyid Badr expressed appreciation for Egypt’s hospitality and emphasized the deep-rooted historical relationship between the two nations. He described the joint committee’s work as a continuation of fruitful cooperation that benefits both countries.
He highlighted progress in economic relations and stressed the importance of enhancing investment in sectors such as real estate, tourism, renewable energy, manufacturing, logistics, food security, and pharmaceuticals. He also called for greater engagement of the Omani-Egyptian Business Council, private sector, and startups, with a focus on digital transformation and innovation to drive sustainable economic growth.
Regional and International Collaboration
On regional issues, Sayyid Badr reiterated Oman’s full support for Egypt’s efforts to broker a ceasefire in Gaza, rejected any plans to displace Palestinians, and endorsed the Arab Peace Initiative for reconstruction and the creation of an independent Palestinian state.
He also affirmed Oman’s support for Egypt’s rights to Nile River waters under international law, advocating for cooperation based on fairness and mutual understanding. Emphasizing that “Arab national security is indivisible”, he called for peaceful solutions to regional challenges, including the resumption of talks on the Iranian nuclear issue under international legal frameworks.
Sayyid Badr also underscored Oman’s commitment to regional stability and peaceful dialogue, rejecting the use of force as a means to resolve disputes.
Shared Vision for Future Growth
Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Abdelatty praised the enduring strength of Omani-Egyptian relations and the shared commitment of both leaderships to advance cooperation. He highlighted the importance of recent mutual visits and constructive dialogue across economic and political spheres.
The session concluded with the signing of several memoranda of understanding and executive programmes, along with the formal minutes of the 16th Joint Committee session. Both parties reaffirmed the need for continued coordination and consultation across all sectors to enhance bilateral ties and contribute to regional security, stability, and sustainable development.
