CPM leader M C Josephine passes away

Josephine has served as the chairperson of the Kerala Women’s Commission from 25 May 2017 to 25 June 2021. She has courted several controversies during her tenure in the office. She resigned from the post after making controversial comments on a live TV programme.

Kannur: CPM central committee member MC Josephine passed away here on Sunday afternoon. She was 71. She collapsed on Saturday night while attending the CPM Party Congress in Kannur. She was soon rushed to AKG hospital. She was also the vice-president of the All India Democratic Women’s Association.

Josephine has served as the chairperson of the Kerala Women’s Commission from 25 May 2017 to 25 June 2021. She has courted several controversies during her tenure in the office. She resigned from the post after making controversial comments on a live TV programme. She has served as chairperson of the Kerala State Women’s Development Corporation Limited, Angamaly municipality councillor, and Greater Cochin Development Authority chairperson. .

She contested the Assembly election from the former Mattancherry constituency in 2006 and lost to VK Ibrahim Kunju. Her candidature in 1989 elections from Idukki also turned unfruitful. Josephine completed her education at Aluva St Xaviers College and Maharajas College. She quit her job job at Chalakkudy Spencer college to become a full-time party worker. In 1978, she was inducted into the KSYF (precedent of DYFI) state committee.
