The earthy woman, Nushrratt Bharuccha

Despite success, her head will never be in the clouds, Nushrratt Bharuccha has always been realistic and grounded. She knew that she reached a place where she had her own standing. She is not part of any rat race. And that humility and confidence is reflected when she sat for the interview.

Nushrratt Bharuccha has been in Bollywood for more than 12 years. She is slowly yet steadily climbing the ladder of success with every passing film in Bollywood. Her last release ‘Dream Girl’ with Ayushmann Khurrana was a superhit and her upcoming ‘Chhalaang’ with Rajummar Rao has already made the audience eager to watch it.

The actress was noticed by several people for her act in films like ‘Pyar Ka Punchnama’, ‘Pyar Ka Punchnama 2′ and ‘Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety’, which were all commercial blockbusters.

The girl with an earthy vibe is now in a calm mindspace and is looking forward to Hansal Mehta’s ‘Chhalaang’ releasing on November 13 on Amazon Prime Video.

Talking about her role Neelima in ‘Chhalaang’, Nushrratt says, “I am playing the role of a computer teacher. It is one of first roles where I am playing a girl from small town.”

While she talked about playing each character, it reveals that she is the master of her craft. She says that she didn’t attempt to make her character unique. “If I wanted to do the character Neelima in a different way, I could do it differently and that will be interesting to watch too. The point here is not to focus on how different I can do the character but stay true to the nature of the character. I see how each character in a film contributing. I understood Neelima from that point of view, and then I made characteristics about her depending on what she is giving to the film and other characters in the film.”

Although she and Rajkummar Rao worked together in Dibakar Banerjee’s anthology, Love Sex Aur Dhokha in 2010,this is the first time they are paired together. “I worked with him Love Sex Aur Dhokha with him but we didn’t star opposite each other. After LSD we wanted to work together but never happened, we kept meeting on and off all these years at parties and award functions. I have always felt that even if our paths were very different after LSD, I always felt that he is part of my close circle.”

Mentioning her nerves about working with such a multi-talented actor Nushrratt has nothing but praise for Rajkummar, “It was just amazing to be on a film set with him to see how he works and how he uses all his learning and skills for his character. I learned a lot.”
Working with national award winner Hansal Mehta came to her quite unexpectedly. “I didn’t think he would cast me. He was sure that I would be great as Neelima. The fact that he could see me as good actor was rewarding compliment. It gave me the confidence to work harder to do better for him and the film,” she says.

Apart from her passion for acting in films, Nushrratt found a new hobby during the lockdown. “I enjoyed cooking. I found new tastes and cuisines and tried my hand at it. I wont say they are the best, but I liked it.”

Like everybody else, the actor is uncertain about what to expect as the films shoots are resuming amid COVID-19 pandemic. “I am going to start shooting in November. I don’t know what to expect at this moment. I keep sanitising the sets and stuffs I use. It is damn scary to work amid this pandemic.”

Yet Nushrratt is hopeful that things will get better eventually.
