Students teach agitating farmers to post in FaceBook, Twitter

A group of students is teaching struggling farmers to use social media as the farmers’ agitation continues to roil Delhi. They introduce farmers to social media by organising special workshops at Samaravedi in Gazipur.

Farmers are taught how to open and post Facebook and Twitter accounts, share posts, find trending topics and campaign collectively.

The farmers themselves were asking the protesting students to introduce the use of social media. They say that the workshop was organised after that. Classes are held every day and evening near the main stage.

The farmers say that many media outlets are reporting false information about the strike and they are taking to social media to bring the truth to the people. Young farmers and the elderly are all actively involved.

Although many farmers own smartphones, there is little intervention in the new media. Students also taught them how to behave decently on social media. Those in the forefront of the agitation, seeing the support from across the globe, have decided to try a hand at campaigning through social media.
