Sri Lanka to Offer Visa-Free Travel Starting October 1

Colombo: Sri Lanka will introduce a visa-free policy starting October 1, 2024, valid for six months. Under this new concession, citizens from 35 countries, including India, will be able to visit Sri Lanka without needing a visa.

The visa-free access will be available to travelers from various countries, such as the UK, the US, China, and Germany, simplifying the travel process by eliminating the need for a visa. Currently, about 20 percent of Sri Lanka’s foreign tourists are from India.

Additionally, Sri Lanka had previously waived visa fees for tourists from India and six other countries beginning in October 2023. This fee waiver has now been extended until May 31, 2024.

The Sri Lankan government hopes that this new visa-free policy will enhance tourism and attract a greater number of visitors to the country.
