The longest suspension bridge in the Northern Emirates has taken shape in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah. It will link two buildings of the new Mövenpick Resort in Al Marjan Island. It will be a new architectural landmark for the emirate and add to its tourist attractions.
The bridge is 36 metres long and will feature eight hotel rooms and vantage viewing points that open to spectacular views of Al Marjan Island.
It is supported by four main trusses, each 4 m high and weighing 55 tonnes. They are installed at a height of 44.2 metres. The bridge structure has intermediate beams and a composite floor deck. It was assembled at the ground floor in two pieces comprising two trusses each, and lifted using a 650-tonne crawler crane.
The bridge is made using 310 tonnes of structural steel. The design to installation of the bridge project was completed in around 65 days by over 55 professionals and skilled workers. The installation was completed following all safety procedures, including traffic management, to ensure the safety of the public and staff. All COVID-19 precautionary measures were followed during the construction and installation process.
It will be a stand-out feature of the Mövenpick Resort Al Marjan Island, which is being developed at a cost of AED543 million. The hotel is expected to be ready by September 2021.
