Dubai : IndiGo, India’s leading low-cost airline by market share, is set to launch direct flights between Madurai and Abu Dhabi starting June 13, 2025. This makes Madurai the 16th Indian city with a direct connection to the UAE capital via IndiGo.
This new route follows the airline’s recent launches of direct services from Bhubaneswar and Visakhapatnam to Abu Dhabi, reinforcing IndiGo’s efforts to improve international connectivity from smaller Indian cities.
The Madurai-Abu Dhabi route will operate three times a week, making international travel more convenient and cost-effective for Indian expatriates in the UAE.
IndiGo stated that the direct connection would benefit both travelers and local businesses. Exporters in and around Madurai can now ship agriculture products, textiles, and other goods directly to the UAE and other global markets, boosting trade and economic development in the region.
For passengers, the new route eliminates the need for connecting flights, reducing travel time and offering a smoother travel experience for business travelers, students, and families.
Last week, IndiGo also inaugurated direct flights from Fujairah to Mumbai and Fujairah to Kannur in Kerala, further strengthening its presence in the UAE.
With this latest addition, IndiGo now operates over 280 weekly flights between five cities in the UAE and 20 cities across India.
The airline is aggressively expanding its international network. Earlier this year, it announced new long-haul routes from India to Manchester and Amsterdam Schiphol, set to begin in July 2025. These routes will be served using Norse Atlantic Airways aircraft temporarily, before transitioning to IndiGo’s upcoming Airbus A350-900 fleet.
IndiGo has 30 A350-900 wide-body aircraft on order from Airbus, with the first delivery expected in 2027, marking a major step in the airline’s long-haul growth strategy.
