GCC Secretary General applauds Oman’s key role in US-Yemen ceasefire

MUSCAT : In a statement issued from Riyadh, His Excellency Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the GCC, praised Oman’s diplomatic initiative in bridging dialogue between the U.S. and the Yemen, describing it as a testament to the Sultanate’s “constructive and active role” in advancing regional peace and security.

Albudaiwi highlighted that Oman’s quiet diplomacy has once again positioned it as a trusted mediator during moments of heightened regional tension. The resulting ceasefire agreement is seen as a significant step toward de-escalation and the promotion of maritime safety in one of the world’s most vital waterways.

The GCC Secretary General reaffirmed the Council’s collective commitment to fostering stability across the Gulf and beyond, noting that member states continue to adopt “wise and balanced policies” to enhance peace efforts both regionally and internationally.
He further stressed the importance of upholding international maritime laws, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, to ensure the safety and freedom of navigation — a matter of growing concern amidst recent tensions in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
