Free parking has been announced in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah during the UAE National Day holidays beginning from December 1, 2020.
The Integrated Transport Centre of the Department of Municipalities and Transport in Abu Dhabi has announced that parking spaces will be free of charge from December 1- 5; paid parking will resume on December 5 at 7:59 am.
ITC also called on the public not to park their vehicles in prohibited areas and not to obstruct traffic flow. It also urged the public to adhere to regulations regarding resident permit parking bays from 9:00 pm to 8:00 am.
In Dubai, all public parking areas except multi-level parking terminals will be free of charge during the UAE National Day holiday (December 1 to 3), the Roads and Transport Authority has announced.
Sharjah Municipality has announced that public parking in the city will be free of charge from December 1 to 3. The paid parking system will resume on December 5 at 8 am.
“This decision excludes the parking zones that are subject to parking fees on all days of the week including Fridays and public holidays,” said Ali Ahmed Abu Ghazien, Director of Public Parking Department at Sharjah Municipality. The paid parking zones can be identified by blue signboards, indicating that the area is subject to fees on all days of the week from 8 am to 10 pm.
Abu Ghazin pointed out that the paid parking zones are essential to provide available spots for residents and visitors, especially in vital and tourist areas, and to spare them the trouble of searching for a parking while going to their destinations.
Parking inspectors will continue to monitor parking lots to detect any misuse of the parking spaces, such as double or wrong parking.
Heavy trucks will not be allowed on internal roads in Khor Fakkan during the holidays to avoid accidents and congestion on roads. Any truck driver found violating the rules will be fined AED 1000 and slapped four traffic points.
Sharjah has upgraded its newly installed ‘Rasid’ speed radars to detect sudden swerving on the emirate’s roads, Lt-Col Mohammad Ali Al Naqbi, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department at the Sharjah Police has said. The fine is AED 1000 and four black points.
Sharjah, Umm Al Qwain, Fujairah and Ajman have already announced discounts in traffic fines to mark National Day.
