Arnab Goswami moves HC against his ‘illegal arrest’ by police

The Bombay High Court on Thursday is likely to hear a plea by Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami, who is facing charges abetment to suicide in a 2018 case.

Goswami who was sent to 14 days judicial custody by an Alibaug court, wants the charges repeal and questioned his ‘illegal arrest’ by Maharashtra Police on November 4 in connection with the case.

A division bench of Justice SS Shinde and Justice M S Karnik is likely to hold a hearing at 3pm.

The case pertains to the death of interior designer Anvay Naik and his mother Kumud Naik at their bungalow in Alibaug in May 2018. The officials said the duo died by suicide over alleged non-payment of dues by Goswami’s television channel.

Mr Goswami was arrested on November 4 from his residence at Lower Parel in Mumbai for allegedly abeting the suicide of the interior designer. He was later produced before a magistrate’s court in Alibaug which remanded him in judicial custody till November 18.

Arnab Goswami is currently kept at a local school which has been turned into COVID-19 center for the Alibaug prison.
