8,553 confirmed with COVID-19 in Kerala on Oct.4; 4,851 cured

COVID-19 has been confirmed for 8,553 people in the State on October 4, while 23 deaths due to the infection have been confirmed on the day. The worst affected districts are Kozhikode 1,164, Thiruvananthapuram 1,119, Ernakulam 952, Kollam 866, Thrissur 793, Malappuram 792, Kannur 555, Alappuzha 544, Palakkad 496, Kottayam 474, Pathanamthitta 315, Kasaragod 278, Wayanad 109 and Idukki 96.

People whose deaths have been confirmed due to COVID-19 were Krishnan Nair (83) from Perukavu, Thiruvananthapuram, Ashokan (75) from Anayara, Josephine Franklin (72) from Veli, Rajayyan (80) from Parasala, Robert (53) from Manjavilakam, Jayanthi (50) from Palode and Annachi Perumal Achari from Nedumangad (90), Devaraj (55) from Manjavilakam, Devarajan (63) from Pathanapuram, Kollam, Abdul Samad (62) from Arattupuzha, Alappuzha, Safia Beevi (67) from Kariyilakulangara, Mariakutty (68) from Kattanam, Rosamma (59) from Pulinkunnu and Nakulan (62), from Nairambalam Ernakulam, Rosy Joseph (89) from Edappally, Chammini (63) from Kapoor, Palakkad, Hasbulla (68) from Tirur, Malappuram, Muhammad (58) from Clary, Kunjimoideen Haji (87) from Thachinganadam, Biriyakutty (77) from Venniyoor, Fathima (83), a resident of Iringavoor, Mohammad Ali (50), a resident of Arakkuparambu, and Mohammad Kunhi (68), a resident of Kannur Coimbatore. This brings the total death toll to 836. Further deaths will be confirmed after NIV testing in Alappuzha.

Thirty of those diagnosed with the disease are from foreign countries and 181 from other States. A total of 7,527 people were infected through contact. Contact source for 716 is not clear. Ninety-nine health workers were infected through contact.

The test results of 4,851 people who were diagnosed and treated were negative. Thiruvananthapuram 880, Kollam 400, Pathanamthitta 167, Alappuzha 608, Kottayam 318, Idukki 80, Ernakulam 405, Thrissur 260, Palakkad 217, Malappuram 715, Kozhikode 402, Wayanad 97, Kannur 109 and Kasaragod 193 were found to be negative today. With this, 84,497 people have been diagnosed with the disease and are still undergoing treatment. 1,44,471 people have so far been freed from COVID-19.

There are currently 2,57,707 people under surveillance in various districts of the state. Of these, 2,26,536 are under home / institutional quarantine and 31,171 in hospitals. A total of 3398 people were admitted to the hospital today.
During the last 24 hours, 58,727 samples were tested. A total of 31,64,072 samples have so far been sent for testing, including routine samples, Airport Surveillance, Pooled Sentinel, CBNAT, Trunat, CLIA and Antigen Assay. As part of Sentinel Surveillance, 2,08,027 samples were sent for testing from priority groups such as health workers, guest workers, and individuals with greater social contact.

There were seven new hotspots and five areas are excluded from the hotspot. With this, there were a total of 725 hotspots.
