Kerala witnessed its highest COVID-19 positive cases on September 6 when 3,082 people in the State were confirmed with the infection. The test results of 2,196 people who were diagnosed and treated were negative. Ten deaths were confirmed as due to COVID-19 on the day taking the total number of deaths to 347.
The district-wise tally of the COVID-19 positive is 528 from Thiruvananthapuram district, 324 from Malappuram district, 328 from Kollam district, 281 from Ernakulam district, 264 from Kozhikode district, 221 from Alappuzha district, 218 from Kasaragod district, 200 from Kannur district, 195 from Kottayam district, 169 people from Thrissur district, 162 from Palakkad district, 113 from Pathanamthitta district, 40 from Wayanad district and 39 people from Idukki district.
Those who were confirmed to have died from the infection were Antony (70) from Kaikulangara, Kollam, Sudha (58) from Kannetumukku, Thiruvananthapuram, Kumaradas (68) from Kanjiramkulam, Thiruvananthapuram, Manoharan (56) from Amaravila, Thiruvananthapuram, Kammukutty (58) from Mavoor, Kozhikode, T.P. Janardhanan (69), from Thottada, Kannur, Aniyan Kunju (61), from Karumadi, Alappuzha; Omana (66), Nettayam, Thiruvananthapuram, Befathima (84), Kasargod, who died on August 21 and Sauda (58), a resident of Moodadi, Kozhikode. Further deaths will be confirmed after NIV testing in Alappuzha.
Of those diagnosed on the day, 56 came from foreign countries and 132 from other states. 2844 people were infected through contact. The source of contact of 189 of them is not clear.
Fifty health workers are affected by the disease. The disease affected 20 people in Kannur district, 9 each in Thiruvananthapuram district, 6 each in Kollam and Kasaragod districts, 3 each in Ernakulam district, 2 each in Pathanamthitta and Thrissur districts and 1 each in Malappuram and Palakkad districts.
There are currently 2,00,296 people under surveillance in various districts of the state. Of those under observation, 1,82,789 are under home / institutional quarantine and 17,507 are under observation in hospitals. A total of 2,410 people were admitted to hospitals on the day. Twenty-three new hotspots were declared on the day.
