1,530 people confirmed with COVID-19 on Aug 16; 1,099 cured

COVID-19 has been confirmed for 1,530 people in Kerala in August 16, while 10 deaths due to the infection were also confirmed.
A total of 519 people from Thiruvananthapuram district, 221 people from Malappuram district, 123 people from Ernakulam district, 118 people from Kozhikode district, 100 people from Kottayam district, 86 people from Alappuzha district, 81 people from Kollam district, 52 people from Kannur district and 49 people from Wayanad district, 48 people from Kasaragod district, 44 from Pathanamthitta district, 30 each from Idukki and Thrissur districts and 29 from Palakkad district.

Ten deaths were confirmed due to COVID-19. CC Raghavan (71), a native of Koothuparamba, Kannur, who died on August 7, Moosa (76) from Kolachery, Kannur, who died on August 11, Simon (60) from Kannur Kompanvayal and CV Venugopalan (80), from Taliparamba, Kannur, who died on August 11., Kanakaraj (60) from Parasala, Thiruvananthapuram, who died on August 14, Mathew (60) from Thiruvalla, Pathanamthitta, Gopi (69) from Udayagiri, Kannur, who died on August 13, Abdul Khader (73) from Aluva, Ernakulam Leelamani Amma (71) from Aluva, who died on August 14, and Sarojini (72) from Vilakkuvattam, Kollam, who died on August 15, were due to COVID-19. This brings the total death toll to 156. Further deaths will be confirmed after NIV testing in Alappuzha.

Of those diagnosed on August 16, 37 came from foreign countries and 89 from other states, while 1,351 people were infected through contact. The contact source of 100 of them is not clear. Fifty-three health workers were affected by the disease. The disease affected 23 workers in Thiruvananthapuram district, 12 in Malappuram district, 8 in Kannur district, 4 in Ernakulam district, 2 in Kollam district and 1 each in Palakkad, Wayanad, Kozhikode and Kasaragod districts.

The test results of 1,099 people who were diagnosed and treated were negative.

There are currently 1,62,217 people under surveillance in various districts of the state. Of those under observation, 1,48,793 are under home / institutional quarantine and 13,424 are under observation in hospitals. A total of 1548 people were admitted to hospitals on the day.

A total of 30,123 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. A total of 11,82,727 samples have so far been sent for testing, including routine samples, Airport Surveillance, Pooled Sentinel, CBNAT, Trunat, CLIA and Antigen Assay. Of these, test results of 8256 samples are yet to come. As part of the Sentinel Surveillance, 1,89,885 samples were collected from priority groups, including health workers, guest workers, and people with greater social contact, with 1187 results expected.
There are 19 new hotspots and13 areas have been excluded from the hotspot.
