Why Amazon Prime is faring well in India compared to Netflix and Hotstar

NIRMAL YESODA

Due to the coronavirus lockdown, the popularity of OTT platforms in India has reached sky-high. Until the advent of the pandemic, OTT platforms were used majorly by the elite in the country who wished to watch global content. However, as theaters remain closed in the country due to the pandemic, OTT platforms garnered the attention of common men, and people in the country slowly started subscribing to platforms such as Amazon Prime, Netflix, and Disney+Hotstar.

However, among these platforms, Amazon Prime has an upper hand over Netflix and Disney+Hotstar. The primary reason behind Amazon’s acceptance among the viewers is due to the availability of regional contents. Even though Netflix has a huge library of global audiences, its database of regional content is not that great when compared to Amazon Prime.

When it comes to Disney+Hotstar, regional contents are good, but it is purely dominated by television soaps. However, following Disney’s involvement, the OTT platform has undergone a drastic change, and it is thriving hard to emerge as the winner by adding more regional content.

Amazon Prime has the best price option among OTT platforms. People can enjoy Amazon Prime for one year with just Rs 999. However, Netflix charges Rs 649 for a standard plan and Rs 799 for a premium plan.

As Indians have that mindset to pick the cheapest option, Amazon Prime is expected to expand its user base in the coming days as well.
