US President Trump in Qatar; Visit as Gaza ceasefire talks progress

Doha: ​Following his visit to Saudi Arabia, US President Donald Trump is in Qatar. After attending the GCC summit in Riyadh on Wednesday morning, he landed at Hamad International Airport at 2.20 pm local time. He was received in person by Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Following his impressive Saudi visit with huge investments and agreements, the world is eagerly awaiting the US President’s tour of the Middle East, which will take him to Qatar and the UAE on Thursday.
Trump’s visit is also expected to bring significant progress in the Gaza ceasefire talks. The US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and Israeli-Hamas representatives have been in Doha in recent days to revive ceasefire talks, increasing the chances of peace. There are also reports that Steve Witkoff spoke to Prime Minister Netanyahu on the phone on Wednesday morning.
The main issues raised at the summit attended by various Gulf leaders in Riyadh were an independent Palestinian state and the need for an immediate ceasefire. The world expects new moves when Trump arrives in Doha as a continuation of the summit attended by Trump. Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani also participated in the summit.
Qatar, which will host the visit of an American president after 22 years, has prepared a grand welcome for the American president. The Doha Corniche, including the American and Qatari national flags, had already been decorated with them. Massive security arrangements were made throughout the city. As part of the president’s visit, roads to Hamad Airport were also closed until 5 pm on Wednesday. Hamad Airport authorities advised passengers to use the Doha Metro service.
