UAE President pardons prisoners

President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered the release of 515 prisoners on the occasion of Eid Al Adha, Wam reported. The pardoned prisoners had been sentenced to jail terms for various offences.

HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed also pledged to settle the financial obligations of the released prisoners.

The President’s annual pardon is in line with the UAE’s humanitarian initiatives based on values of forgiveness and tolerance. It is also a part of Sheikh Khalifa’s keenness to enhance family cohesion, bring happiness to mothers and children and give the pardoned prisoners a chance to reconsider their future and return to the righteous path.

H.H. Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, has also ordered the release of 62 prisoners, who have demonstrated good conduct during their sentences in punitive and corrective institutions in the emirate on the occasion of Eid Al Adha.

Prisoners are pardoned by the rulers of the various emirates on the occasion of National Day on December 2, Eid Al Fitr and during the Holy month of Ramadan.
