Supreme Court refuses to postpone NEET exam

The NEET PG exam is scheduled to be conducted on May 21.

New Delhi: Supreme Court on Friday refused to postpone National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET-PG) 2022 exam.

The Supreme Court on Friday refused to postpone the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET-PG) 2022. The exam is scheduled to be conducted on May 21. The plea was filed by a group of doctors.

Apart from these doctors associations like the Indian Medical Association (IMA) had also requested the Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya to reschedule the NEET PG exam. They argued that the difference between NEET PG 2022 exam date and the completion of 2021 counselling is too short for an aspirant to prepare for the exam.

SC said that any further extension will have cascading effect on the admission schedule fixed by Court in January 2016. As per this, NEET PG 2022 is delayed already by four months. The Centre submitted that NEET-PG 2023-24 has been fixed in January 2023 and the effort of government is to get back on track the admission schedule that was derailed by pandemic for last two years. ‘Postponement of any exam is replete with serious consequences.” says SC as it refuses to interfere with the NEET PG 2022 as it holds needs of patient care has to be paramount
