South Al Batinah registers 220 winter camps for enthusiasts in Oman

MUSCAT : The season runs from October to March and highlights the region’s growing allure as a winter tourism hotspot.

The Municipality Department of South Al Batinah detailed the camp distribution: 150 camps are set up in Barka, 54 in Nakhal, 10 in Al Musannah, and six in Rustaq. These camps offer visitors an opportunity to experience the diverse landscapes and cultural heritage of the governorate, drawing both citizens and tourists alike.

Hilal bin Ahmed Al-Faliti, Director of the Municipality Department in Barka, emphasized the vital role of winter camps in boosting tourism. Al-Faliti also outlined regulations for camp operators, including maintaining cleanliness, adhering to designated areas, and ensuring safety and minimal environmental impact.

For Yusra bint Yasser Al Maamari, a winter camp owner, the season offers significant economic benefits. “The camps represent an important economic tributary during the winter season for small and medium enterprises and people with limited income, in addition to being a new experience that allows many visitors the opportunity to explore the tourist and archaeological sites in the wilayats of South Al Batinah Governorate,” she noted.

Camping enthusiasts, such as Saeed bin Muslim Al Rawahy, praised the desert experience for its blend of adventure and education, while Rahma bint Saeed Al Bada’i highlighted safety precautions, especially for children around campfires. Both underscored the potential of South Al Batinah’s vast deserts to attract more visitors if promoted effectively.
