Sharjah’s Flag Island organises special yoga event

The emirate of Sharjah’s Flag Island organised a special yoga event on the evening of June 21, authorities said. A successful edition of the event had been held in 2019.

The Flag Island, located near the Government Departments Buildings near Al Jubail Market and Bus Terminus, is a prominent landmark in Sharjah.

The event was be held from 6 pm to 7.30 pm, in collaboration with Fitness First, Sharjah. The activity is aimed at promoting awareness about yoga and its benefits for physical and psychological health.

A press release from Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) said a group of trained yoga instructors would supervise it.

“The event will feature a range of free-of-charge activities including yoga and meditation sessions, and will organise an awareness session explaining how yoga can increase wellness in one’s life,” officials stated.

Indian missions in UAE organise yoga sessions

The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi as well as the Indian Consulate in Dubai organised yoga sessions on June 19 and 20.

The Indian Embassy in the UAE hosted International Day of Yoga celebrations in Abu Dhabi over the weekend, holding various sessions and practices with Sheikh Nahyan bin Mabarak Al Nahyan, UAE’s Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, as guest of honour.

The consulate organised it on June 19 in collaboration with the Ismaili Centre Dubai. The event was attended by diplomats and officials including the Consul General Aman Puri.

In his welcome address, the CGI encouraged participants to make yoga a part of their life for holistic well being. A warm-up session with laughter yoga was also held to energise participants. Instructors from Art of Living guided them through various asanas, breathing techniques and meditation. A guided mediation was also conducted by Sr Jyotika from Raja Yoga Centre Dubai.

This year’s theme is ‘Yoga for Wellness’, chosen to reflect on the importance of holistic health in pandemic times.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced the launch of the mYoga App developed by Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India.
