Schools in Abu Dhabi will continue distance learning for another three weeks, the Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee announced on January 16.
The Committee said e-learning will be extended from January 17 for all academic levels, “as a precautionary measure to limit the spread of the virus and safeguard the health and safety of the schooling community.” It advised parents, guardians and academic and administrative staff in all schools to vaccinate against COVID-19, “to protect themselves against the virus and help develop comprehensive protection for the wider community, which will accelerate the safe return to schools.”
Moreover, all UAE public school students in Grades 9 to 12 — referred to as Cycle 3 pupils — will continue with distance learning until further notice.
The students were to return to campuses on January 17, but the Ministry of Education (MoE) has now postponed the resumption of in-school classes.
School administrations have been asked to inform students who had chosen in-class learning not to return to campuses through e-mails and text messages.
The decision was made in the wake of the recent spike in COVID-19 cases since January this year.
The MoE had earlier announced that 50 per cent of students in some grades could return to school from January 17, and schools were instructed to implement Covid-19 safety measures for this.
