Saudi Arabia: Rain, thunderstorms and dust to hit from Friday to Monday

Dubai: Saudi Arabia’s National Center of Meteorology (NCM) has forecasted a wave of moderate to heavy thunderstorms across most regions of the country starting Friday, with conditions expected to continue until Monday.

The weather system is likely to bring light to moderate rainfall, dust storms, hail, and flash floods in several areas, prompting authorities to issue warnings and urge the public to stay alert.

In the western region, the Mecca governorates—including the city of Mecca, Al Jumum, Kamil, Taif, Maysan, Adham, Al Ardiyat, Al Mawiyah, Al Khormah, Raniyah, and Turbah—are expected to witness significant rainfall along with dust-laden winds and potential flooding.

Similarly, most governorates in the Madinah region—including Al Ula, Al Ays, Badr, the city of Madinah, Khaybar, Al Hanakiyah, Wadi Al Fara, and Al Mahd—are forecasted to experience similar weather patterns, with strong downward winds expected to stir up dust and cause high waves along the coastal areas.

In the northwest, Tayma in the Tabuk region is also expected to be affected by rainfall and dust storms, with possible hail and coastal disturbances.

Meanwhile, light to moderate rain accompanied by dust storms is forecast for a wide swath of the country, including the regions of Riyadh, Qassim, Hail, Najran, the Eastern Province, the Northern Borders, Al Jouf, Al Baha, and Jazan.

The meteorological centre has advised residents and travellers to monitor official weather bulletins and follow guidance from local authorities, particularly in areas prone to flash floods or reduced visibility due to dust.
