Over 3,400 test positive for COVID-19 in Kerala; 12 deaths confirmed

COVID-19 has been confirmed for 3,402 people in the State on September 9 while 12 deaths have been confirmed due to the viral infection. The test results of 2,058 people who were diagnosed and treated were negative.

 

The district-wise break-up of the affected are 531 from Thiruvananthapuram district, 362 from Kollam district, 330 from Kozhikode district, 323 from Thrissur district, 276 from Ernakulam district, 270 from Kasaragod district, 251 from Kannur district, 240 from Alappuzha district, 201 from Malappuram district, 196 from Kottayam district, 190 from Pathanamthitta district, 131 from Palakkad district, 77 from Wayanad district and 24 from Idukki district.

 

Those who have been confirmed to have died due to COVID-19 are Ahmed Rifai (65), a native of Vizhinjam, Thiruvananthapuram; Rajan (40), of Panayal, Kasaragod; Mariyumma (66), Arikodi, Kasaragod; as C.A. Hasainar (66), of Chengala, Kasaragod; Sreejith (21), of Balaramapuram, Thiruvananthapuram; Devaki (97) of Minaloor, Thrissur; Neelakanta Sharma (68) of Manakardu, Thiruvananthapuram; Shantha (70) of Malayinkeezhu, Thiruvananthapuram; Mohanan (70), a native of Vallakkadavu, Thiruvananthapuram; Floramma (76), a native of Valiyathura, Thiruvananthapuram and Lilly (57), a native of Kalamassery, Ernakulam.

 

Of those diagnosed on the day, 46 came from foreign countries and 133 from other States. 3,120 people were infected through contact. The contact source of 235 of them is not clear.

Eighty-eight health workers and 15 INHS in Ernakulam District Employees were also affected by the disease.

There are currently 2,02,801 people under surveillance in various districts of the state. Of those under observation, 1,83,921 are under home / institutional quarantine and 18,880 are under observation in hospitals. A total of 2,751 people were admitted to hospitals. There are 23 new hotspots.
