Muscat : A number of experts, researchers, and decision-makers from around the world participated in the summit. Representing the Ministry were Dr. Masooma bint Habib Al-Ajmi, Advisor to the Minister for Language Development, and Shanuna bint Salim Al-Habsi, Assistant Director-General of the Directorate-General for Special Education and Continuous Learning.
The World Literacy Summit is an Initiative of the World Literacy Foundation, a global nonprofit organisation that works to ensure every young individual regardless of geographic location has the opportunity to acquire literacy and reading skills to reach their full potential, succeed at school and beyond.
The Summit discussed several topics, including reading education for children and adults, literacy, adult education, people with disabilities and learning difficulties. It also focused on international cooperation and sustainable development goals for literacy, as well as the use of technology to motivate children and adults to read, through a number of lectures and discussion panels.
The World Literacy Summit is the world’s largest gathering of international literacy specialists, including NGO leaders, researchers, academics, teachers, professors, literacy entrepreneurs, education companies, publishers, practitioners, government representatives and most importantly the learners themselves.
