MUSCAT: Nama Water Services has issued a statement following a partial collapse of a treated water collection basin at the Nizwa sewage treatment plant that led to flooding of the Nizwa market.
The flooding damaged goods of vendors at Nizwa market, while their belongings were swept away on Friday morning. Nama explained that the overflow was due to a breach in the feeder tube of the pond that resulted in water flowing into Wadi Kalbu.
“Nama Water Services has activated an emergency response plan and is coordinating with relevant authorities and field teams to manage the situation.
The field teams are also working to assess the situation and identify the causes leading to the accident, and will provide citizens with details later,” the statement said.
The company pointed out that the Nizwa plant produces triple treated water in accordance with the approved specifications, and “this water is used for irrigation of plantations and other uses.”
The company also confirmed that it is working on establishing a new line for larger development projects in Nizwa.
