Muscat : The Sultanate of Oman is commemorating International Museum Day on May 18, 2025, with a vibrant array of events that bridge heritage preservation with technological innovation and tourism development. Under the leadership of the National Museums Committee, the celebrations align with the global theme set by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and its 27th General Conference held in Dubai.
At the forefront of the celebrations is the Frankincense Museum in Dhofar Governorate, which welcomed visitors with free admission and a day-long schedule of engaging activities. A highlight of the day is the student competition, “Omani Heritage with a Vision for the Future,” which invited schools across Dhofar to use artificial intelligence tools to create visual artworks that reinterpret Omani history through a modern lens. The top three winning schools will be officially recognized in a special ceremony at the museum.
In parallel, the Oman Across Ages Museum is hosting the international conference titled “Museums and Their Role in Tourism Development.” This high-profile event brings together museum professionals, tourism experts, cultural curators, and policymakers to explore the growing impact of museums on sustainable tourism and economic diversification.
