New electricity tariff rules announced in Oman

MUSCAT : The updated rules, effective January 1, 2025, aim to streamline electricity pricing across residential, non-residential, agricultural, and fisheries sectors.

The decision, based on the Law Regulating and Privatizing the Electricity and Related Water Sector (Royal Decree No. 78/2004), replaces the previous tariff list, aligning it with public interest requirements.

Key Highlights of the New Tariffs:
Residential Category:
Basic Accounts:

Up to 4,000 kWh: 14 baisas/kWh

4,001–6,000 kWh: 18 baisas/kWh

Over 6,000 kWh: 32 baisas/kWh

Additional Accounts:

Up to 4,000 kWh: 22 baisas/kWh

4,001–6,000 kWh: 26 baisas/kWh

Over 6,000 kWh: 32 baisas/kWh

Non-Residential Category:
Flat rate of 25 baisas/kWh for the first year, with annual adjustments subject to Council of Ministers’ approval.

Agricultural and Fisheries Category:
Up to 3,000 kWh: 12 baisas/kWh

3,001–6,000 kWh: 16 baisas/kWh

Over 6,000 kWh: 24 baisas/kWh

Additional Provisions:

The electricity connection tariff is determined according to the following table:

The load tariff shall be in accordance with what is stipulated in the licensee’s electricity connection regulations, which are approved by the Authority.

The aforementioned tariff does not include the value of the meter, connection accessories, service cable between the energy source and the subscriber’s property, and the necessary labour costs.
