Dubai ∙ In a historic move, Kuwait has appointed women to its higher public prosecution office for the first time, marking a major step toward gender equality in the country’s traditionally male-dominated legal system.
The landmark appointments were part of a broader reshuffle initiated by Attorney General Saad Al Safran, which involved transferring several prosecutors from local and specialized positions to senior ranks within the prosecution office.
In a statement, the Public Prosecution described the inclusion of women as “a precedent recorded for the first time,” emphasizing that the promotions were based purely on merit and professional competence.
“This decision reflects the well-deserved confidence in Kuwaiti women and their vital role in the criminal justice system,” the statement said, highlighting the nation’s growing commitment to equal opportunity and female leadership in public service.
The move aligns with directives from the Amir, Sheikh Meshal Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, who has called for increased representation of qualified Kuwaiti nationals, especially in vital sectors such as the judiciary.
In a parallel development, Badr Al Masaad, currently First Chief Prosecutor and Head of the Attorney General’s Technical Office, has been appointed to lead the higher prosecution body.
