MUSCAT : The workshop, which began today, February 16, will address the growing digital challenges related to raising children and aims to enhance community awareness regarding the safe and responsible use of social media.
The workshop stems from the Royal speech of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik on the responsibility of the family and society towards children’s upbringing in an atmosphere of social media.
The workshop builds upon previous work by the Ministry of Information, including engagement with academics, researchers, educators, media professionals, and specialists. This prior engagement involved preparing research studies and conducting a survey in collaboration with Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) and the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
A team from the Ministry of Information, Oman Vision 2040 Implementation Follow-up Unit and the departments concerned has developed a strategic approach that comprised smart goals, algorisms and challenges posed to the priorities of Oman Vision 2040. The team analysed an initial set of projects and initiatives and visited a number of government departments to get more insights about existing initiatives and projects.
The workshop is expected to come up with a number of initiatives and programmes that will be implemented by relevant authorities in a bid to enhance positive aspects of social media and limit related negative impacts on society.
