‘Holiday’ for expatriates this time for UAE National Day; National Day Celebrations Now ‘Eud Al Ittihad’

ABU DHABI : UAE National Day celebrations will now be officially known as Eid Al Ittihad (‘National Day’). The new name was announced by the organizing committee. The committee stated that it reinforces the concept of ‘Union’ (Etihad) and celebrates the unification of the Emirates on 2 December 1971 and is a symbol of the country’s identity, heritage, unity, strength and national pride.
Every year on December 2, the grand event is usually attended by the rulers of the emirates. But the location of the event has not been revealed yet. However, the committee informed that there will be more than one program in the ‘Eid Al Ittihad Zones’ of all seven emirates.
The long weekend is this year’s National Day holiday. December 2 and 3 (Monday and Tuesday). It will be a four-day holiday when it coincides with the Saturday and Sunday weekend, said Isa Alsubousi, director of strategic and creative affairs of the organizing committee of the 53rd ‘Desiyaperunnal’ celebration.
Everyone is invited to join in the joy of this historic moment celebrating the unification of the seven emirates. In support of these celebrations, comprehensive guidelines have been prepared to inspire and assist in preparations. Government institutions, private companies, schools and families are also encouraged to participate in this important celebration. The ‘National Day’ will highlight the importance of sustainability and cooperation. Residents are encouraged to focus on reducing waste, recycling or upcycling what they have, and reusing resources.
