Government moves to curtail parliamentary session as ministers, MPs contract COVID-19

Indications are that the Central government is planning to reduce the monsoon session of Parliament. The monsoon meeting is expected to be cut short as the number of members confirmed with COVID-19 increases.

The move comes after COVID-19 was for more than 30 MPs, including Union ministers Nitin Gadkari and Prahlad Patel. Earlier, it was decided to hold the monsoon session for 18 consecutive days till October 1. Parliament met under strict security precautionary measures in the COVID-19 situation. But it is against the backdrop of more MPs contracting COVID-19 that the debate among the leaders over whether to reduce the session.

The government plans to close the session next week if the bills to replace the 11 ordinances brought by the government are passed in the House. The government plans to pass the bills within the first three days of next week.
