The latest phase of the ban targets several retail and food-related sectors, aiming to encourage a full transition to eco-friendly alternatives such as cloth and paper bags. The ongoing campaigns are designed to inform and prepare both businesses and consumers for the upcoming changes.

Sectors Affected in Phase Three Include:

  • Fruit and vegetable shops and packaging units
  • Grocery stores
  • Candy factories and sweet shops
  • Gift and novelty stores
  • Bakeries, as well as outlets selling bread, pastries, and confectionery

All businesses operating within these categories will be required to cease the use of single-use plastic shopping bags and adopt environmentally sustainable alternatives.

The Environment Authority emphasized that public cooperation is vital for the successful implementation of the ban. The campaign also aims to promote long-term behavioral changes in both the retail sector and among consumers, reinforcing the importance of environmental responsibility.
