Weeks after petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged, on Tuesday, diesel prices were hiked by 23-25 paise across most cities in the country.
The price of petrol in Delhi is at Rs 80.43 per litre in Delhi and in Mumbai at Rs 87.19 per litre. Meanwhile, the rates of diesel remained costlier than petrol in Delhi at Rs 80.78 per litre and in Mumbai, the price was retailing at Rs 79.05 per litre. Fuel rates vary from state to state due to value-added tax (VAT) and are determined by forex rates and crude oil prices.
State-run fuel retailers – Indian Oil, Hindustan Petroleum and Bharat Petroleum – which market the majority of petrol and diesel outlets in the country – on June 7 restarted the normal system of daily price reviews in line with costs following an 82-day hiatus.
