Archaeological treasures unearthed at Oman’s Al Baleed

MUSCAT : The excavation team focused on the area south of the fort and Al Baleed Mosque, near the Al Fardah area and the southwestern gate of the site. Their discoveries include a building with multiple small rooms, stoves, and ovens, as well as a significant quantity of shells. The site also revealed archaeological materials from India, Africa, and China, showcasing the region’s historic trade connections.

Dating back to the 16th-18th centuries AD, these findings provide valuable insights into Al Baleed’s role as a thriving hub of cultural and economic exchange. The ongoing survey and studies aim to further explore the site’s rich history and significance in global trade networks.
